An Introduction
A personal message from the owners, Nick and Fiona Fridd:
Welcome to our new website for our special self-catering accommodation in Wells!
Over the years, we have stayed in many self-catering cottages and apartments, often bitterly disappointed that the blurb and photos were misleading, sometimes beyond belief. We have encountered 1970s decor, sagging mattresses and cheap pillows, electric meters which eat your pound coins at a rate of knots, broken loo seats, old TVs, worn carpets, dribbling showers, and badly equipped kitchens.
Our experiences (both the ugly and the good) have been channeled into ensuring that our self catering cottages in Wells - Little St John's (with 1 bedroom) - and also - Stable Cottage (with 2 bedrooms) - offer a homely feel with those little extra touches so important when you are away from home and on a much needed holiday. When you arrive, you will find the heating on, the water hot, the beds beautifully made up, a supply of tea, coffee and sugar... and of course salt and pepper, good kitchen equipment, up to date TV, DVD, CD, fluffy towels in the bathroom, comfy furniture, and you won't have to rush out into Wells town centre in search of loo paper and washing up liquid!
We originally purchased the cottages in 2002. The minute we stepped inside we fell in love with them both; their ambience, cosiness and period charm, and their excellent location in central Wells: Little St John's is off the High Street, half way along a charming little street of terraced stone cottages, and Stable Cottage is just up the road from the Cathedral. You don't even need a car to enjoy a holiday here! For 8 years, we let the cottages out to long term tenants. Now, after a complete refurbishment, we are delighted to launch them both as self-catering holiday homes, in addition to our luxury apartment, The Old Dairy, next door to our Mendip home.
