Good Pubs Serving Food, Bar Meals and Snacks:
The Rose and Crown, St John Street - the closest to - Little St John's Cottage - A fantastic garden with covered, heated area. Separate pool room. Filled rolls at lunch time. Dogs welcome.
Full Moon, Southover. Small friendly pub serving food, just around the corner (Southover is a street name in Wells rather than a separate place).
City Arms, High Street. Painted pink. Originally the city jail, pretty outside cobbled area. Food served all day, including breakfast. Good tapas menu, Sunday carvery.
Globe Inn, Priest Row. Fantastic food! Real ales. The place to be for sports coverage.
Kings Head, High Street. Quaint old pub with good food. Fri/Sat evenings full of youngsters so can get rowdy. Lunchtime best.
The Crown, Market Place. Popular bar (serving food) and separate restaurant - Anton's Bistrot, excellent reviews. Outside cobbled seating at back. Sister pub/restaurant is the Fountain Inn, St Thomas Street, also very good.
Sherston Inn, Priory Road. Refurbished and privately run, great locally sourced food plus popular Greek meze, garden.

ASK, Market Place. Italian pizza/pasta chain. Fabulous building.
Da Luciano's Pizzeria, Broad Street. Much better than Ask in our opinion - this is family run. Take aways available. 01749 675884.
Goodfellows, Sadler Street. Seafood. Superb. Expensive. Award-winning. Small patio garden. Also own next door patisserie and delicatessen. Lunch Tues-Sat, Dinner Wed-Sat. Opposite The Old Spot.
The Old Spot, Sadler Street. Great restaurant overlooking the Cathedral. Lunch Wed-Sat, Dinner Tues-Sat.
Swan Hotel, Sadler Street. Best Western group. Popular for weddings. Very comfy.
Cafe Romna, Sadler Street. Indian, smart modern decor. Check your bill!
Rajah Tandoori, Queen Street. Best Indian in Wells. Small and simple, take aways also available. Restaurant upstairs. 01749 673978.
Cafe Piano, Heritage Courtyard, Sadler Street. English/French cuisine. Lovely setting. Live music weekends. Informal.
Rugatinos, Sadler Street. Italian/English. This 14th century inn is part of The Ancient Gatehouse Hotel, one the oldest hotels in England, overlooking the Cathedral Green in Wells.

Beah, Union Street. With the variety of its Mediterranean/Moroccan/English menu, fresh fish daily and a really welcoming atmosphere,
this is definitely our favourite restaurant in Wells. Expect great food, reasonable prices and excellent service.
Recommended Take-Aways:
The Ho Ho House, Broad Street. Chinese take away. There is another in Wells but this by far the best. Closed Tues. 01749 674784.
Tuckers Fish and Chips, (Opposite entrance to Tesco). Best Fish and Chips Shop in Wells by far.
A Selection of Country Pubs/Restaurants Near Wells
The Queen Vic, Priddy. Character filled old pub popular with local cavers. Open fires, homely food. 01749 676385. The New Inn in the same village is also worth visiting, and The Hunters Lodge if you fancy a slab of cheddar cheese and bread and really want to meet the Mendip locals!
Do visit Priddy village in August when the annual Sheep Fair takes place (fascinating) and the Folk Festival weekend in mid July is wonderful!

New Restaurant in Glastonbury, near Wells
We recommend that you consider La Terre, located on the High Street in nearby Glastonbury. Serving Mediterranean cuisine (but using locally sourced ingredients) this is a restaurant / cafe / wine bar / tapas bar providing a great place for a leisurely breakfast or morning coffee.
